1月17日（土）、NTTジャパンラグビーリーグワン第5節が行われ、東京・秩父宮ラグビー場では、東芝ブレイブーパス東京と浦安D-Rocksと対戦。後半、D-Rocksが31-27と4点差まで追い上げたが、最終的にはブレイブルーパス東京が38-27と突き放し4連勝を飾った。

敗れはしたものの、昨年昇格し最下位だったD-Rocksはここまで5試合で3勝2敗で勝点12と、プレーオフ進出圏内の6位につけている。

試合後、昨シーズンから加入した南アフリカ代表ヤスパー・ヴィーセに今季のチームの状況やグラハム・ラウンツリー新HCについて聞いた。

Toshiba Brave Lupus Tokyo defeated Urayasu D-Rocks 38–27 at Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium on Saturday, January 17, securing their fourth straight win in Round 5 of the NTT Japan Rugby League One.

Despite the loss, D-Rocks—who were promoted last season—remain in playoff contention, sitting sixth after five rounds. After the match, South Africa international Jasper Wiese reflected on the team’s progress and new head coach Graham Rowntree.

――今日はベンチスタートでしたが見ていて前半の出来についてどう感じましたか。

On coming off the bench / First half performance


まず言うと、やっぱり東芝は本当にすごく良いチームだと思います。僕たちはかなり、よく粘り強く戦えたと思います。確か一時は19対3でリードされていた場面があって、そこから、前半のうちに試合を締め直すことができたっていうのは、僕たちにとってすごく重要だったと思います。なので、そういう意味では、前半はかなり悪くなかったというか、しっかりした前半だったと思います。後半については、そうですね、単純に、いくつか遂行面でのミスがありました。本当に小さなことなんですけど、そういう小さなミスが、少しずつ響いてしまったかなと。それでも、全体として見れば、すごく良い試合だったと思います。

Obviously, first of all, Toshiba are a very good team. And, I think we fought back pretty well.

I mean, we were, I think, 19–3 down at one stage, and, to be able to tighten the game up before halftime was important for us.So I thought the first half was pretty solid in that sense.

In the second half, um, I think we just had some execution errors. You know, small things, but they cost us a bit. Still, I think overall it was a very good game.
