This is Liam Williams' first season in League One in Japan. He started for the second game in a row from the previous week and also scored a try in today's game. We asked him to reflect on the game and his season in Japan, as well as his future with Wales.

――First of all, please tell us about today's match.


It didn't start too well. We had a couple of tries in the first 20 minutes, but we had a chance. It went well when we did that in the second half. I don't think we had a good start in the first 10 minutes. We talked about what we wanted to fix in the second half, and we fixed it in the second half.

―― What did you talk about before the second half?


Yeah, just keeping the ball, going through the phases, locking up the ball at the breakdown. They were coming pretty hard in the breakdown, so we secured the ball and had a bit of a win in the second half, so we talked about holding on to the ball in the breakdown, and I think they pushed hard in the breakdown, so we secured the ball in the breakdown. It was a good year,I didn't play as much as I would have liked, that's part of the reason for my injury. I want to show more of my performance next season.


――What's the biggest difference between playing in Japan and playing in Europe?


Not so much difference.I think it's the game of kicking. We use physicality more. Every team is different, so we're a team that can go up.


――You play in Japan now, but you can still play for Wales.


I still intend to play for Wales and have my hand out for a summer tour of Australia if the opportunity arises.


――Then of course you have your sights set on competing in the 2027 Rugby World Cup, don't you?


Yes. I spoke to Warren Gatland just two weeks ago and he said he would consider putting me on the squad. I would like to play if given the chance, but that depends on the head coach's decision.

――後半の前にどんな話をしましたか？


ボールをキープすること、フェーズを重ねること、ブレイクダウンでボールを固定すること。相手はブレイクダウンでかなりハードに攻めてきていたので、ボールを確保して後半は少し勝てたので、ブレイクダウンでボールをキープしようという話をしたんですが、相手はブレイクダウンでハードにプッシュしてきたと思うので、ブレイクダウンでボールを確保しました。後半は風が強くて暗かったしね。

――でも、あなた自身は前半からいいパフォーマンスでしたね。

今は具体的な答えはないですが、課題は必ずあると思うので、もう一度試合を見て、課題が見つかれば次の試合に改善したいと思います。

―― シーズン終了まであと1試合ありますが、日本での初シーズンはいかがでしたか？


いいシーズンではあったと思うけど、怪我もあって、思ったほど試合に出られなかったことが残念です。これからこの1年を見直して、来年はもっと試合に出ていいパフォーマンスを見せたいです。

日本でのプレーとヨーロッパでのプレーの一番の違いは何ですか？

そこまで大きく変わらないけど、キッキングゲームと、フィジカルの強さだと思う。どのチームも違うけど、僕らはもっとは上に行けるチームだと思います。


――今は日本でプレーしていますが、ウェールズ代表でもプレーできますよね。


ウェールズ代表ではまだプレーするつもりだし、機会があれば夏のオーストラリア遠征にも手を挙げている。

――では、2027年のラグビーワールドカップへの出場も視野に入れているんですよね？


つい2週間前にウォーレン・ガットランドと話したんだけど、彼は僕を代表に入れることを検討すると言ってくれた。チャンスがあれば出場したいですが、それはヘッドコーチの決断次第です。
