18日、東京サントリーサンゴリアスは、東芝ブレイブルーパス東京との「府中ダービー」に挑んだ。今季初先発したサム・ケインは63分まで出場。オールブラックスで共に戦った、リッチー・モウンガやシャノン・フリゼルと対峙した。試合後、次の試合に向けても「リカバリーに専念し、パフォーマンスを向上させる準備をしたい」と意欲をみせた。

――試合を振り返ると
前半はなんとか良いキャリーメーターを稼ぐことができていましたが、その後、サイドラインで話し合い、とにかく得点を取ることに集中しようということになりました。私たちはただ、ディフェンスで連携をとり、コミュニケーションを密にすることに集中しました。しかし、結局、後半は思うようにできなかったと思います。そして、私たちが集中できていない数少ない場面を、相手はうまく突いてきました。
――SOモウンガ、FLフリゼルら元オールブラックスのチームメイトとの対戦は？
何年もスーパーラグビーでやってきたことなので、慣れっこですよ。昨年も経験済みですしね。ただシャノン（・フリゼル）は本当に（ブレイブルーパスの）主力なので、バトルを楽しみました。
――彼のいない10分間はあまり楽しくなかった？
向こうが14人になったという状況を活かしたかった試合の局面でした。残念ながら、相手チームの守備が非常に堅かったことと、私たちのチームにオブストラクションのコールが入り、その時点でどうしても必要だった得点を取ることができませんでした。
――開幕戦以来の出場となりましたが、自分の調子は上がってきた？
試合に集中し、入り込むまでに時間がかかったように感じました。ここ数か月間、あまりラグビーをしていなかったことを考えれば、それは当然のことだと思います。しかし、試合が進むにつれて、徐々に調子が出てきました。この80分間の出場は、私にとって非常にプラスになるでしょう。（ブラックラムズ戦は）今日から8日後には次の試合ですから、次の48時間はリカバリーに専念し、パフォーマンスを向上させる準備をしたいと思います。
――チームの調子も上がってきましたが、今日のゲームではチームとして失点が多すぎたと思いますか？
おっしゃる通りです。チームとしてコーチングスタッフを信頼しています。トレーニングも順調ですし、取り組んでいることも試合で実践できています。ただ、おっしゃるように、今日は40点以上も失点してしまいました。これほど失点してしまうと、試合に勝つのは本当に難しいです。ディフェンスは強化され、改善されてきましたが、その分野ではまだ十分ではありませんでした。

――Looking back on the match.
We managed to earn good carry meters in the first half, but then we had a discussion on the sideline and decided to just focus on scoring points.We just concentrated on working together on defense and communicating closely.But in the end, I don't think we were able to do as well as we would have liked in the second half.And the few times we weren't focused, they were able to take advantage of it.
――How about playing against former All Blacks teammates such as SO Mo'unga and FL Frizzell?
I've been playing Super Rugby for years, so I'm used to it.I've already experienced it last year.But Shannon (Frizzell) is really a mainstay, so I enjoyed the battle.
――But you didn't really enjoy the 10 minutes without Frizzell?
It was a phase of the game where we wanted to take advantage of the situation where the other team was down to 14 players.Unfortunately, the other team's defense was very solid and our team was called for obstruction, so we didn't get the points we really needed at that point.
――You haven't played since the season opener, but have you found yourself getting better?
I felt like it took me a while to focus and get into the game.I think that is to be expected considering that I had not played much rugby for the past few months.However, as the match progressed, I gradually got into better shape.This 80 minutes of playing time will be very positive for me.(The Black Rams game) is the next game eight days from today, so I will focus on recovery for the next 48 hours and prepare to improve my performance.
――The team is getting better, but do you think the team gave up too many goals in today's game?.
You are right.As a team we trust our coaching staff.Our training is going well and we are able to implement what we are working on in our games.However, as you said, we gave up over 40 goals today.It is really difficult to win games when you concede so many goals.Our defense has been strengthened and improved, but we still weren't good enough in that area.
